Tailored Counselling for Your Well-being

About Me

Hello, my name’s Emma.
I’m a fully qualified, experienced counsellor working in private practice in Aberystwyth. I hold a BACP Accredited Clinical Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and have completed a range of additional specialist trainings.
I’m passionate about offering a safe and welcoming space where you can bring every part of yourself – whoever you are and whatever you’re facing.
After growing up in the countryside near Aberystwyth, I moved away and spent two decades living in Spain and then London. I completed my clinical training at Chelmsford Counselling Foundation in 2014, later doing clinical placements at WPF Therapy in London Bridge and at Positive East, one of London’s largest community-based HIV charities. I returned to Aberystwyth in 2017 when I became a mother to my little boy. I have been practising privately here since 2019. I love nature, travel, food, film, culture and adventure. I'm married to my husband, Jamie and we live just outside of Aberystwyth.

Professional Training and Approach
Originally trained in Psychodynamic Counselling, my work explores how early experiences and unconscious processes can influence life today, and how greater understanding can help us live with more freedom and choice.
I am trauma informed and often integrate a range of approaches. These include: Rewind Therapy, solution-focused techniques, Gestalt therapy, person-centred counselling, coaching and CBT – tailoring our work to what best supports you.
Rewind Therapy is a gentle and non-intrusive approach that can help ease the lasting effects of trauma and phobias. Unlike some trauma treatments, it doesn’t require you to retell or relive painful memories. Instead, it allows the brain to reprocess traumatic experiences in a calm and safe state, reducing or removing the emotional distress linked to them. Many people notice a real sense of relief within just a few sessions, and find they can move forward with more calm, confidence, and ease.
Working Style
I’m friendly and relatable, and I believe the relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to healing and change. I work collaboratively and compassionately, offering both emotional support and psychological exploration. I won’t judge or tell you what to do – instead, I’ll listen, reflect, and ask thoughtful questions to help you gain clarity, understanding, and confidence in overcoming the difficulties you’re facing.
Areas of Interest
I have experience working with a wide range of emotional issues, and I’m particularly interested in family and relationship dynamics, creating healthier boundaries, work/life balance, exploring sexuality, reducing anxiety, low self-esteem, and unhelpful thinking patterns. A key part of my work is encouraging personal empowerment – helping you feel more confident, capable, and free to make choices that work for you.
I warmly welcome LGBTQ+ clients, and have experience supporting neurodiverse, non-binary, and trans people. I am sex-positive and kink-aware.
As a parent, I’m also passionate about supporting women and men who are struggling with challenges around parenthood, pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal depression. It can be a wonderful yet overwhelming time, with so many changes and pressures. Having a safe space to talk and feel supported can make a real difference.
